Loop News was informed by a family member on Saturday that the incident — which occurred a year ago — also involved a brother of the deceased.
According to the family member, all three men were before the court as a result of the incident, which is said to have stemmed from a falling out over the rental of a property.
The family member told Loop News that during the incidents the brothers were shot and that they inflicted chop wounds to the man who allegedly shot them.
That man is said to be from Kingston.
The brothers, according to the family member, had lived at the family house of the man, who allegedly shot them.
On Saturday, Wayne Cameron — the superintendent in charge of the Manchester Police Division — told Loop News that the family had been in a long-standing dispute over property prior to their untimely demise Friday night.
He said the man “at the heart of the dispute” is being treated as a person of interest, and issued a call for him to turn himself in to the police for questioning.
Powell, his 44-year-old sister Lissette and their 73-year-old mother Lina died in the blaze that occurred about 9 o’clock, around the same time residents heard gunshots in the vicinity of the home.
Cameron told Loop News that four spent shells were discovered in front the gate to the yard where the blaze occurred and that one was discovered on the roadway.
Cameron said there was no indication that the three were shot.
The incident has left the family and community of Craig Head in mourning.
“[I] always see these things on the news. Never thought I would experience losing my grandmother, my aunt and uncle all at once. I don’t even know what to do,” a loved one commented on Facebook.
The young woman told Loop News that the three who died were peaceful people.
“My grandmother and aunt were always in church and my uncle was always on his farm,” she said.
“It is shocking. I feel helpless. I really don’t know how to deal with it. I’m in exam period and I don’t how to handle it,” she said before breaking down in tears. “If they were sick… and died I wouldn’t feel it so much.”
